Colourfeel

In recent years, innovations has made the art world more inclusive for the blind.

A notable number of artists and galleries are now pioneering new ways to allow the blind to experience and access the art we love.

However, the possibility of the blind experiencing colours has not yet been explored.

Can colours only be communicated through sight?

If colours can be felt, what would it feel like?

William received a birthday card from his family.

The letters are written with hot glue gun to allow william to feel them.

The family decorated the card with colours. However, william cannot see/feel the colours.

Interviewed Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary School resource teacher for the blind, Ms Penny Chong about the art curriculums in school.

Ms Chong noted that the blind students are exempted from art because they cannot paint or draw which resulted them to be unable to meet the curriculum goals planned out by the MOE.

Concept

Exploring and understanding the relationship between textures and colours,

and creating textures to represent different colours.

Different materials are mixed in wax to produce different textures.

These wax mixtures are extruded from a pen that works like a 3D pen.

After the wax mixture is extruded, it cools down quickly and is safe for touch.
